Student Absence, Late Drop Offs or Pick Ups
Our team asks that all parents and guardians report a student absence, before the start of the school day. This helps us ensure that you have given permission for your child to be absent, and supports our staff in accurately tracking and following up on absences.
Please note, you can also use this online system to let us know of a late arrival or an early pick up.
Absences can be reported:
- 24 hours a day through “Report a Student Absence”
- 24 hours a day through our voice message system at 604-517-6030, or email spencer@sd40.bc.ca.
know.
Extended Absences
Extended Absences apply to absences longer than a week (5 school days) between October 1st and June 30th.
Absences exceeding 20 consecutive school days (including September if a student starts and attends for a short period and then goes away for longer than 20 consecutive school days): students must re-register upon return as we can’t guarantee spots longer than 20 consecutive days (four weeks). We will do every effort to place students in their catchment school but we can’t guarantee this …and if we are able to place them in their catchment school, we can’t guarantee they will go into the same division.
Please read the following Administrative Procedures for further clarification on Extended Absences.
When reporting an extended student absence, please:
- Complete a parent/guardian declaration form and return it to the school’s office.
- Also submit an “Extended Leave of Absence Form” prior to the absence period.
