Principal’s Message – September 21st
Dear Herbert Spencer School Community!
We have finished up our third week and have another busy week ahead! We enter 2 shortened weeks with a professional Development Day on Friday, September 27th and Truth and Reconciliation Day on Monday, September 30th. The school will be closed to students on both days.
Our annual Terry Fox Run was a great success! Staff and Students ran with enthusiasm and shared stories of what they have learned about Terry Fox’s legacy on our PA announcements this week. A huge thank you to Parents that came out to help supervise our Grade 4/5 run through the park. And another huge thank you to all those that have donated towards the Terry Fox Foundation and ongoing Cancer Research through our Herbert Spencer donation page. There is still plenty of time for us to exceed our fundraising goal as we have already raised over $1500.00! Let’s see if we can set a new Herbert Spencer Record!

Theme Days
Our theme this year is the Forest and Staff are eagerly planning Schoolwide collaborations and activities. The first of our Theme Days is Wednesday, October 9th. This is a great opportunity for students to interact with peers from other classrooms and further strengthen our community of learners. Please ensure that your child is aware of their Team Animal and Colour as we ask that all students come in their colours on October 9th. More information will come directly from your child’s classroom, please connect with your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Fall Fun Lunches!
Fun Lunches are in full swing with the first set for Friday, October 4th for Papa John’s Pizza Day. Fun Lunches provide students with a special lunch and help our PAC raise funds for school activities, events and resources. A huge thank you to the PAC for all your hard work organizing these opportunities for our school and supporting our learning community so well!

Picture Day!
Individual Picture Day is right around the corner on Thursday, October 10th. More information will come closer to the day, please save the date.
Upcoming Events:
Orange Shirt Day and Truth and Reconciliation Assembly – Thursday, September 26th
Orange Shirt Day will be on Thursday, September 26th. We will hold a Truth and Reconciliation Assembly at 11 AM giving students an opportunity to come together to continue their learning and strengthen their recognition of the importance of our ongoing work towards Truth and Reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples.
School Open House – Thursday, September 26th
On Thursday, September 26th please join us at the school from 5:30PM to 6:30PM for our Meet the Teacher Open House. Families will have the opportunity to drop in and see the classroom and meet their child’s teacher.

Canadian Parents for French
A reminder that the Canadian Parents for French – New Westminster Chapter, invites all families of French Immersion and Core French learners to join us for our 2024 Welcome Meeting and AGM on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 6:30pm in the École Glenbrook Middle School Library or via Zoom (email cpfnewwest@gmail.com for the link). After School Programming
Programs begin this week on Wednesday, September 25th at 3PM with Sports of all Sorts in the gym and Art Attack in the Tech room. We will ensure your child is dismissed directly to the program and ask that parents please be on time for pick up at the front of the school at 4PM.
