Remembrance Day

Dear École Herbert Spencer Community,

Today, our school community came together to honour and remember the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, in the pursuit of peace. In the morning our students led a moving Remembrance Day assembly, sharing poems, reflections, and music that reminded us of the importance of gratitude and empathy. In the afternoon Intermediate students participated in a walking field trip to the Fraser Cemetery where they laid poppies and reflected at the headstones of service members.

It was inspiring to see our young learners approach this solemn occasion with such respect and understanding. Their voices carried an important message, that remembrance is not only about looking back, but also about committing ourselves to kindness, peace, and compassion moving forward in our everyday lives.

Thank you to the staff and students who helped make today’s assembly so meaningful, and to our families for supporting these important conversations at home.

A Reminder that tomorrow, November 11th is Remembrance Day and school will be closed. We look forward to seeing you back on Wednesday, November 12th.

With gratitude,

P. Manville
