Welcome Back from the PAC!
Hello École Herbert Spencer Families!
I hope that you have all had a restful summer and are geared up for the start of what is sure to be a great school year.
My name is Courtney Daws and I am honoured to be serving my second year as Chair for the École Herbert Spencer Parent Advisory Council (PAC). I am also pleased to introduce our new Vice-Chair, Christina Service! Christina has been serving as Treasurer/CFO for the PAC for the past 3 years and we are so excited to have her continue on our PAC Executive in this new role!
We are still looking to fill a couple of positions on the PAC Executive, namely:
- Secretary – (prepare agendas for monthly PAC meetings, take notes at the meetings, collect mail from the PAC mailbox at the office)
- Canadian Parents for French (CPF) Representative – (act as a liaison between CPF and the Herbert Spencer PAC)
- Member at Large (Social Media) – create posts for PAC social media feeds on events, fundraisers, school reminders, etc.
- Members at Large – attend PAC meetings and participate on the Fundraising or Events Committee
Please reach out to me at: herbertspencerpacchair@gmail.com if you are interested in any of these positions. We will hold a by-election for these roles at the first general meeting of the 2025/2026 school year on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:30 pm in the school library.
Our monthly PAC meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the school library on the following dates:
- Wednesday, September 10th, 2025
- Wednesday, October 1st, 2025
- Wednesday, November 5th, 2025
- Wednesday, January 7th, 2026
- Wednesday, February 4th, 2026
- Wednesday, April 8th, 2026
- Wednesday, May 6th, 2026
- Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026
These meetings are a great opportunity to connect with our Principal and Vice Principal and to find out what is happening at the school and with the district. We also have regular attendance and participation from our School Trustee. Every family is a member of the Herbert Spencer PAC, so all are welcome to attend and participate at these meetings. We also provide child care, if needed, so if you plan on attending any of our meetings and need childcare, please send me an email about a week before.
The PAC Executive is hosting a couple of fun activities next week:
Welcome Back Coffee – we are continuing the tradition of serving coffee to parents and caregivers dropping kids off at school on the first day (September 2nd)! Christina and I will be just outside of the school on 2nd Street serving coffee from 8:45 – 9:10 a.m. Please come by and say hi!
Freezie Friday – What better way to say goodbye to summer than with a September Freezie Friday! We will be outside the front of the school and near the Kindergarten area selling freezies after school on Friday, September 5th. $1 for half; $2 for full.
We are excited for the 2025/2026 school year and for the opportunity to continue to support our kids, their teachers and classrooms and our amazing community! We will once again be hosting events such as: Halloween Howl, Christmas Craft Fair, First Light, and Carnival! And holding great fundraisers like: Fun Lunches, Purdy’s, Created by Kids, Neufeld Farms, Family Photos, etc.
